Today, the British born, LA-based singer songwriter LAUREL shares her single, “Only One”, from her upcoming studio album PALPITATIONS, due for release on 14th June via Communion Records – pre-order PALPITATIONS here. At the start of June, she will play two live shows in America: on June 4th in New York and June 6th in Los Angeles.
“Only One” explores the intoxicating euphoria of infatuation. With soaring vocals and soul-stirring instrumentation, the track weaves together themes of longing and desire with emotive lyricism: “You’re the only one that sets fire to my sun, burning with a fire when you look at me”. Inspired by the complexities of falling in love, “Only One” perfectly encapsulates the bittersweet in a polished, synth-infused piano ballad.
Speaking about the inspiration behind “Only One”, LAUREL says the track is about “Falling so deeply in love. It’s a new love but a sure love, surer than anything you’ve ever felt. It’s intimidating – you aren’t sure whether you can trust them yet, and they feel the same. A part of you wants to run away, but really you can’t. You don’t have a choice but to see it through because they’re the “only one.”
The new track arrives just weeks after LAUREL’s UK and EU headline tour announcement, marking her highly anticipated return to the stage, following her triumphant sold out intimate showcase at Hackney’s Oslo earlier this year. The tour will kick off on October 20th at G2 in Glasgow, followed by performances at Academy 3 in Manchester on October 21st, before arriving at the iconic KOKO, London on October 22nd. The UK dates are followed by a run of EU shows across Amsterdam, Paris, Antwerp, Cologne and Berlin. The remaining tickets are available here.
Coming in hot on the heels of a sold out show celebrating her new creative era at London’s Oslo and the release of ‘Wild Things’ in February, LAUREL has already seen immense support from BBC Radio 1 Future Pop and Future Artists, and Australia’s Triple J. 2024 is gearing up for what promises to be an unforgettable year for LAUREL – a moment where she’ll finally step up to the pop throne.
Having previously joined the likes of MUNA, MØ, MS MR, Oh Wonder, and Flume on tour, LAUREL also featured on Flume’s critically acclaimed album Palaces, joined the musician on the main stage at Coachella 2022 and continued to perform with the Australian DJ across tastemaker stages throughout the year. More recently, LAUREL collaborated with Kita Alexander and Snakehips. The songstress also finds herself wrapped up in the fashion world, having previously collaborated with esteemed brands such as Burberry, Ganni, Vivienne Westwood and many more.
