An Artist Driven by Purpose
For actor, musician and poet Sebastian Capitan Viveros, creativity has always been about something greater than simply performing. Born in Mexico City in 1991 and raised between the United States and Geneva, Switzerland, Viveros developed an international outlook early in life before eventually moving to London to pursue his dream of becoming a professional actor. He graduated from the prestigious Drama Centre London in 2016, beginning a creative journey that would expand well beyond acting.
Viveros is also a poet and accomplished hip-hop artist who has performed numerous concerts and released three albums along with several singles. Whether through acting, poetry or music, he views art as an opportunity to connect with people and potentially make a difference in their lives.
That sense of purpose stretches back to childhood. Growing up, Viveros says he felt a powerful calling to serve humanity, particularly those struggling with poverty in his native Mexico.
“Since I was a kid, I felt a huge calling to be of service to humanity,” he recalls. “I wanted to help the poor people of México. I truly felt I could make a change.”
He imagined a society in which money wasn’t the dominant force and people could live more harmoniously with one another and nature. As he grew older, those ideals ultimately helped lead him toward becoming an artist.
“I think that’s what has led me down the path of the artist—to make a difference in people’s lives, to help humanity evolve in some way for the better and to inspire people.”
While his ambitions may be global, Viveros also finds strength in deeply personal traditions. Having lived alone in London for much of his adult life, he has developed daily rituals that provide a sense of home, gratitude and connection to his family.
One of his most meaningful traditions honors his grandfather, Miguel Viveros Parker, whom Viveros says served as an admiral in the Mexican Navy. A framed photograph of his grandfather in uniform hangs prominently on his wall, and every morning Viveros salutes him.
Above the photograph is one of his favorite quotes: “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try one more time.”
Before leaving his apartment, Viveros follows another ritual: he crosses himself and kisses three times a large Nazar—the familiar blue-eye good-luck symbol—given to him by his mother. A believer in the significance of the number three, he admits that leaving home without completing the ritual simply doesn’t feel right.
“It makes me feel safe,” he explains. “It’s a moment of presence and gratitude for me.”
Those small rituals reveal another side of an artist whose life has taken him from Mexico City to America, Switzerland and London. Beneath the actor, rapper and poet is someone who remains closely connected to family, heritage and a childhood belief that his life should have a larger purpose.
For Viveros, artistic success isn’t simply about being seen or heard. It’s about using his voice to inspire others—and perhaps leaving the world a little better than he found it.
