Do Beauty & Nourishment Need To Be Opposed?

It’s easy to think of beauty treatments as being inherently unhealthy. Of course, this image has risen to promise as many celebrities seem to undergo unnecessary plastic surgery treatments, or supermodels seem to be calorie-restricted to the point of harm, or even the idea of unachievable physiques being celebrated more than “normal human bodies,” which is now starting to be questioned.

All this has given many the idea that beauty and nourishment are, somehow opposed. But that doesn’t have to be the case, of course. In fact, often health, nourishment, self-care, wellbeing and living a bountiful life are the same thing as beauty. Here’s how:

Authenticity Doesn’t Always Have To Be Natural

Being true to yourself doesn’t mean you can’t change how you look or work on yourself where appropriate. It’s okay to want to look different, for example replacing a chipped tooth with veneers, or maybe you want to dye your hair or get a tattoo. That’s all fine.

What matters is that you’re doing it for you, not because someone else told you to or because you’re trying to look like someone else. Think about why you really want to change. Is it to feel more like yourself? Or is it to fit in with others? There’s no right answer, but it’s good to know why. Remember, what you see as beautiful might not be what others think. Understanding that means you won’t chastise yourself for a beauty treatment, but you may select a better one.

Foundational Beauty Treatments Aren’t Always Visible

Some of the best things you can do for your looks aren’t things others can see right away. Eating well, drinking lots of water, and getting enough sleep are the cornerstones of course, because they might end up helping your skin, hair, and nails look better. They also make you feel better, which shows in how you carry yourself and smile. Speaking of smiles, taking care of your teeth is another good example. You might not think about it much, but a healthy smile can light up your whole face. Having helpful lip balm and mask on hand to protect your skin also works wonders. These kinds of treatments are good for you inside and out, and nourish your overall beauty as opposed to one blinding treatment everyone notices.

Beauty Needs Change From Person To Person

What works for one person might not work for another when it comes to beauty. We’re all different, with different skin, hair, and bodies and it’s good to celebrate that, even if you think you have flaws to be worked through.

After all, beauty is about being unique, so find what works for you. This might take some trial and error. Don’t be afraid to try new things, but also listen to your body. If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. Your beauty needs might also change as you get older or if your lifestyle changes too – for example women in their golden years tend to keep their hair shorter because it’s easier to manage. As such, you’ll have nourished yourself through beauty, not only enjoying beauty through nourishment.

With this advice, you’ll see beauty and nourishment never have to be opposed.
