Luxury By The Ounce: Tellers: An America Chophouse, Islip, NY

Every Tuesday this summer Tellers: An America Chophouse offers up its Luxury by the Ounce program, and it certainly lives up to its name. The experience is a curated selection of high-end, hard to find spirits that patrons can have in one-ounce tastings. The collection includes 25-ounce bottles of extremely rare scotch, bourbon, rum, cognac, gin, tequila and only those best the among the best in they classification.

If you’re lucky, on your visit you may have John Nicoletti, the Head Bartender as your server. John is just the kind of guy you want behind the bar, whether you are a connoisseur or venturing to try new tastes, John is very familiar with the stock and makes great recommendations.

Here’s what Millennium Magazine sampled:

Bourbon
While there are many exquisite and truly impressive bourbons on the market, there is only one label that is considered the Holy Grail.

Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 20 Year – $105 per oz.

Cognac
Cognac’s interesting history has progressed from the choice of European monarchs and royalty to a vanity liquor for high profile hip hop stars and entertainers. Its biggest adversary has always been its reputation, however, if you dig a little deeper, you’ll find centuries of tradition and meticulous craftsmanship producing some of the finest spirits in the world.

Hennessy Paradis Imperial – $135/oz.

Tequila
Distilled from the blue agave plant, tequila is held to strict government standards in Mexico, ensuring that the finest representations of the spirit are of the utmost quality.

Deleon Leona – $58/oz.
Less than 10,000 bottles made!

Tellers gives a former old bank new life as a restaurant, and its bank vault, now a wine cellar.

The main dining room is styled with classic designs, reflecting a period when banking was done with high esteem. The main room is traditional, bathed in tepid colors of grey and burgundy where white cloths cover table tops in a formal setting. In the very rear of the restaurant just off from the bar, patrons could gather seemingly in secret as they sit in brown leather seating under low yellow lights, surrounded by wood grained walls.

The entire wait staff, from the moment you enter until the time you leave, are among some of the most accommodating you will encounter on Long Island. They are attentive to your every need, and if you are a bit hesitant about what to drink or eat, they are quick to make a suggestion, and not a single one they make will disappoint.
